Dé & Ra by Ann Demeulemeester
In Dé, the play of chiaroscuro, light and shadow that is so characteristic of Ann Demeulemeester's style is translated into a set of tableware. The result is a collection of shadow paintings on porcelain. A 'dégradé' is painted manually on the edges of the fine plates, in different layers so that a meticulous interplay of lines is created. The craftsmanship makes each plate unique and numerous combinations are possible. The arrangement of the various plates can be adapted to the guest, the atmosphere and the dish. Also special are the light effects that arise when the gradient effects of plates and cups touch each other.
